PUPILS’ DESIGNS ON SHOW AT THE MALL BLACKBURN

Year Six pupils at St Edward’s RC Primary School, Darwen, have been putting their creative skills to the test with The Mall Blackburn’s poster competition.

Following the Children’s Takeover Day in February, the class of 25 were tasked with designing a poster which captured what The Mall means to them. The entries were judged by The Mall’s Management team and the winner and two runners up were selected.

Winner Grace Shorrock, 11, from Darwen, featured useful facts, statistics and quotes from her fellow classmates on her design and won a £50 Gift Card. Runners up Gabriella Bellusci and Niamh Catlow, both aged 11 from Darwen, each received a £25 Gift Card.

Mr Gerard Keane, Head teacher at St Edward’s RC Primary School in Darwen, said: “The pupils really enjoyed their time at The Mall Blackburn and got a real insight into the world of work.

“This competition marked the end of a very successful project and I would like to thank The Mall for all their efforts. A few pupils have already mentioned that they are considering a career in retail and so this exercise has definitely had a positive impact.”

Loraine Jones, General Manager of The Mall Blackburn, said: “We wanted the pupils to really capture everything they had learned on their visit to The Mall and with that in mind, we launched the competition.

“We were really impressed with the level of detail that went into all the designs and I’m delighted that the pupils learnt from this unique experience.”

The Mall Takeover was part of a nationwide initiative backed by the Office of the Children’s Commissioner. It gave youngsters the opportunity to work alongside the shopping centre’s management, marketing and security teams learning the ropes of the daily running of the business.
