All Aboard for Eanam Wharf

Visitors to Blackburn Heritage Festival will be encouraged to take a vintage bus ride to Eanam Wharf, Ewood Park and all stops in between on Saturday, 12 and Sunday, 13 September.
 

Following visitor feedback from last year’s event, the Blackburn BID (Business Improvement District) have funded four vintage buses provided by Cumbria Classic Coaches which will be doing an inner circle and an outer circle.
 
Blackburn BID Manager, Harriet Roberts explains, ‘The inner circle route leaves every 15 to 20 minutes from the temporary bus station area on Penny Street making it easier for visitors to access the activities at places like Holy Trinity and Eanam Wharf. The outer circle bus will go out as far as the Thwaites Empire Theatre, Corporation Park and Witton Park. With over 50 events going on across Blackburn and Darwen over the weekend, there is so much going on that visitors want to get to places quickly and easily.’
 
Jayne and Graham Vernon at the DAPA centre at Eanam Wharf have organised a range of history themed activities on both Saturday and Sunday between 10am and 4pm, including an opportunity to see the old crane workings, stone work and mechanical workings of the canal and wharf buildings.  There will be a visit by the Kennett, a historical barge and an exhibition of the life and work of Kathleen Ferrier, Blackburn’s internationally famous contralto.  Jayne said, ‘We hope that the vintage ‘hop-on hop-off’ buses coming right into the yard at Eanam Wharf will attract more visitors.’
