There’s no place like “Dome” as BID launch Street Fairs for Blackburn

Blackburn Business Improvement District have revealed that visitors to a new series of street fairs will be able to enjoy 4K projections in a spellbinding geodesic dome.

A seasonal programme of town centre street fairs will begin on Saturday 20th May as the Blackburn BID kicks off a calendar of outdoor events to support local businesses and increase footfall in the town centre.

Stall holders will be gathered on King William Street in the area outside Marks and Spencer and on Town Hall Square where street food traders will feature around a central pop up food court and entertainment arena.

A 360 degree cinema housed within an impressive dome shaped installation which will show a programme of specially made, planetarium style presentations. The structure is being presented by Blackburn born, Joe Wilkinson of creative start-up company, Jellyfishmoon who will be using spherical mirror projection to show a range of specially made films. Joe told us,

Bringing together our shared love of music, art, film and architecture, the aim is to bring our creations to life and we can’t wait to bring the dome to Blackburn. Using these structures, we create fully immersive productions with an emphasis on recognising the relationship between light, sound and vision.

A pop up bandstand will feature local live entertainment including performances by the Accrington Pipe Band and the Clitheroe Ukulele Band. There will also be a display of owls and hawks.
