Help Blackburn Cathedral land a lottery grant

People are being urged to help Blackburn Cathedral secure almost £2 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund to reveal its hidden heritage by completing a short on-line survey.

The survey, which only takes a couple of minutes to complete, asks people how often they visit the cathedral and why.

It also asks those who have not visited what would attract them in the future, such as family friendly activities and trails, creative workshops, food heritage, festival traditions of different faiths or guided tours and talks on the history of Blackburn.

The funding would be used to create welcoming exhibition spaces for the cathedral’s treasures which include silverware from the reigns of Elizabeth I and Charles I. Community, education and conference spaces would also be created.

Sharon Grayson, executive director of Blackburn Cathedral, said:

The cathedral is one of Blackburn’s most important and most-visited heritage assets and tourist attractions.

Our Cathedral Court development, opened by The Archbishop of York in 2016, greatly enhanced our facilities for visitors and tourists and this new project would allow even more people to learn about the cathedral’s rich and fascinating history.
