Nigel Howarth talks about Blackburn Market launch

Star of Blackburn Market’s official launch speaks about event

The Michelin Star celebrity chef set to star at the official launch of Blackburn’s new £8m Market has been spoken of his “delight” at being involved in the event.

Nigel Howarth, of Northcote Manor, and star of the BBC's Great British Menu and Saturday Kitchen will help officially open the brand new state-of-the art facility on Saturday, July 9.

Taking place from 9-4pm, the opening event will feature The Bee Radio’s roadshow, who will be on hand to provide music and entertainment, and there will be family activities including face painting, Clowns and dancing.

Nigel said: “I am delighted to be part of the opening of Blackburn Market. It’s fantastic to see the revival of the market, which offers a great platform for our regional producers; growers and suppliers to showcase their great products.”

With 20,000 shoppers attracted to the new site – part of the £66m extension to the Mall, Blackburn - on its opening day on June 1 the market proved an instant hit with shoppers.

Thousands more have packed out the new market since then all there to sample the new ‘Continental’ style market with its high quality food and non-food offer.

With three quarters of the 89 stalls that have already signed up beginning trading on the opening day, the new market has been a hive of activity.

And interest has remained high since, with many more shoppers visiting the new site to sample the range of goods on offer.

The Council is continuing to interview potential new stallholders.

Nigel added: “Pennine Lancashire offers some of the best produce in the North West and it is only right that Blackburn Market continues to be the hub of the community. I look forward to the event on July 9.”

Councillor Dave Harling, Executive Member for Regeneration, said: “The market has been a resounding success so far and I’m delighted that we now have the opportunity to officially open it. It has already provided a great boost for the town centre with its truly excellent range of goods and traders offering a friendly, attentive service. I encourage people to come to the official launch and to celebrate what the market has to offer.”
