Mothers Day Crafts

Community interest company, ‘Mum’s the Word’ will be in helping families celebrate Mother’s Day this weekend with crafty activities for children at both Blackburn and Darwen Markets.  The organisation was started by mums, Caroline Fotios and Rachel Rhodes.  They recycle and resells school uniforms and children’s clothing to support local families.

Caroline said: "We launched Mum's The Word as we are passionate about recycling and helping the local community.  We see ourselves as a service for everyone and by offering a wide range of school and activity wear at a fraction of the cost people can make an informed decision on how much they can spend on the essentials.’

This Saturday volunteers will be giving youngsters the opportunity to make a card or gift to give to their mum on Sunday, in return for a small donation to the organisation.  The ‘make and take’ activities will be next to the Visitor Information Desk at Blackburn Market and in the annexe area at Darwen Market.

Caroline added, ‘Mother’s Day is a great opportunity to raise awareness of our work, and the crafts give children a chance to make something for someone special for just a few pennies, to help a good cause.’
