It’s party time for June's First Thursday.

Sky Valley Mistress will be getting people into the party spirit for next month’s First Thursday Street Party.

The Blackburn rockers will be playing at the event on Thursday, June 5, which will take place on Town Hall Square.

Also on the bill are Blind J Bear Johnson, a blues soul singer and Blackburn singer songwriter Danielle Wallace.

First Thursdays are part of the Blackburn is Open scheme, which aims to put the town back on the map as a vibrant and unique place to visit and shop.

The events, that take place on the first Thursday of every month, see the town centre come alive with art and music.

June’s event will see a whole host of creative activities taking place including street art demonstrations, a hula hoop workshop, and a catwalk fashion show.

The fashion show is being staged by Blackburn College students and will see the designers of the future showing off their creations for their degree show.

Liz n Lil’s Café on Northgate will for the second time host an arts and craft market from 4-8pm, where shoppers can pick up unique and handcrafted pieces and enjoy a cup of tea and a cake at the same time.

And this First Thursday, Rebound bookshop, on Town Hall Street, will be getting involved with be:spoke, a spoken word and music event.

The event will be run by Somewhere To, a scheme to help young people find places where they can perform and be creative.

Opposite at WEAVE, the street wear shop, people can drop in to hear a DJs session and see street artists at work while next door in Nicola Hebson’s Curiosity Shop there will be a taxidermy demonstration.

To round off the evening visitors can enjoy what will be the breath taking sight of Holy Trinity Church lit by 1,000 candles  for a charity performance by Blackburn’s People’s Choir.

The concert will be in aid the life-saving charity, The Samaritans, which touches the lives of over 200,000 every year.

Blackburn is Open is a scheme to build a creative community in the heart of Blackburn.
