Blackburn seeks ambassadors to be the "Talk of the Town"

Blackburn Heritage Festival has been awarded a £10,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery to create an army of high quality street guides to engage with visitors during the history festival in September, and beyond.

Harriet Roberts, event manager has launched a search for 16 people with a passion who will spend the summer immersing themselves in heritage, through guided tours and visits to museums and sites of local interest.  The guides will be provided with full expenses and uniforms and receive excellence in customer service training from Marketing Lancashire.  They will also receive social media training and take part in a first aid course.

Harriet who is delivering the event as part of the Blackburn BID work explained, ‘Beyond the festival in September it’s envisaged that the Talk of the Town team will work across a range of town centre events and activities.  There are street guides in other BID towns and cities such as Manchester and Norwich and we’re grateful that the Heritage Lottery has given us the seed funding to get the scheme going and the first trench of volunteers on board.’

Applicants need to be between 17 and 75, well presented with good communication skills.  Harriet said, ‘We want people with a genuine passion for regenerating Blackburn and will talk of the town, its history and our vision for the future in positive terms.’

Applications are being handled by Blackburn with Darwen CVS and details of how to apply are on the Blackburn Festival website by visiting the join in page. www.blackburnheritage.com
