Blackburn & Darwen Brass Band to play at Heritage Festival

One of the area’s oldest established brass bands have been invited to launch a showcase of some of most popular community performers when they perform at a specially installed ‘pop-up’ bandstand on the Cathedral green at Blackburn Heritage Festival.

Blackburn and Darwen Band will be performing on Saturday 13th September alongside groups taking part across the weekend including  the Red Rosettes Barbershop Choir, Nanukes of the North (Bolton’s Ukelele Band), St Christopher’s School Band, Accrington Pipe Band, Blowjangles and popular Clitheroe duo, The Remedy.  Blackburn and Darwen Band have a history going back to 1840 when they began as the Darwen Temperence Band.  Most recently they performed in the highly acclaimed production of Brassed Off at Bolton’s Octagon Theatre.  Later in September they will be at the Thwaites Empire Theatre with a concert of music from popular films including James Bond, Titanic and Indiana Jones.

Event Organiser, Harriet Roberts said, ‘We are honoured to have Blackburn and Darwen band kicking off the live performances on this specially installed band stand outside the Cathedral.  It’s the perfect arena and event to celebrate a band with such a fine heritage.’
