Do you want to become the ‘Talk of the Town?’

Ten more chatty types with a positive outlook and a pride in the town centre are being recruited to help welcome people to Blackburn, as the BID team gears up for two massive festival events being organised for later this year.

As part of the Heritage Lottery funded project each of the new recruits will learn first aid and take part in Marketing Lancashire’s ‘Welcome Host Gold’ training course.

A group of six festival guides who volunteered at last year’s Blackburn Heritage Festival and Christmas lights’ switch on were praised for their contribution to the success of the events. Talk of the Town Guide and owner of Iqbal St Peter Street Funeral Services, Rashid Nasir, said, ‘I love Blackburn and all the people who live here. As a talk of the town guide I enjoyed welcoming people to the centre of Blackburn and seeing their smiles.’

Harriet Roberts, Manager of the Blackburn BID said, ‘The Talk of the Town Guides project funded by the Heritage Lottery has been a big success. The volunteers we have already recruited and trained as ambassadors are a credit to the town centre and we have such fun working together. We are looking to extend how we use the guides to meet and greet visitors to the town centre at key times as well as using them at our two big events, Countryside Comes to Town on 20 June and the Blackburn Heritage Festival in September.’

Event Organisers are also seeking general stewards to help direct visitors and provide an additional presence in the town on festival days.

Apply for the role by downloading and completing the enquiry form on the Blackburn BID or Blackburn Heritage Festival websites. For further details email info@blackburnheritage.com or telephone 01254 449007.
