Top Festival Music Acts bring the Country to Blackburn Town Centre

The Blackburn BID has announced one of Europe’s hottest and most entertaining world folk acts will be entertaining the crowds at the town centre’s nature themed festival this Spring. The Hut People will appear as support to CBeebies Mr Bloom on Saturday 20th June with an hour of entertainment filled to the brim with spontaneity, often hilarious patter and crowd involvement.
Hailed as ‘champions of the standing ovation’ the duo consists of accordionist, Sam Pirt who also performs with 422 (previous Radio 2 Folk awards winners) and is a very experienced musician, well established within the folk circuit. Sam has in the past performed alongside Kathryn Tickell, The Dubliners, Sharon Shannon, Jez Lowe, Brian Finnegan, Brian McNeill and many others. He is also the founder of Ethno England.
Percussionist Gary Hammond has for the past 12 years recorded and toured with The Beautiful South. He has also worked with Nina Simone and has frequently been a part of many other groups and collaborations within the World, Jazz & Pop genres.
The stage show hosted by the Bee Radio will take place outside the town hall, culminating at 4pm with an Ugly Bug Ball. The carnival themed party will invite children to have their faces painted and with wings and antanae at an insect transformation station in the Blackburn is Open Shop.
Top festival band, Drum Machine will bring their 30 piece edgy urban sound to the finale of the event which will be accompanied by giant dancing Praying Mantis insects and life-size comedy blue bottle flies.
With pop up petting farms, a 30 foot giant sleeping sow, vintage tractors and a talking compost heap, BID Manager, and event organiser, Harriet Roberts said, ‘Countryside Comes to Town is shaping up to be a really exciting event with something for all ages and musical tastes.’
