Weekend of Fun to Celebrate Leisure Centre’s Birthday

One year on from gold medal winner Rebecca Adlington opening Blackburn Sports and Leisure Centre, the state-of-art facility is set to celebrate its first birthday.

The leisure complex is holding a number of special birthday events on Saturday, 19th and Sunday 20th March between 9am and 5pm to mark the milestone.

As a thank-you for the community’s support, the leisure centre has organised a series of activities, including personal training tasters, a gym challenge designed to test endurance and gym members can bring a friend along for free.

There will also be free Nerf maze sessions, children’s entertainment, prizes, giveaways and a tombola with all proceeds being donated to East Lancashire Hospice.

Councillor Damian Talbot, Executive Member for Culture, Leisure and Young People, is looking forward to attending the birthday celebration. He said: “Blackburn Sports and Leisure Centre is a fantastic development and offers state-of-the-art facilities for local residents. I am proud that Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council has been able to build a successful new leisure facility in conjunction with Blackburn College.

“The centre is exceeding all of our expectations in terms of visits from members of the public. It has really been welcomed and embraced by local people and I hope that they will continue to use these fantastic facilities.”

The attraction, situated on Feilden Street, Blackburn was officially opened on Friday, 20th March 2015 when hundreds of people flocked through the doors to try out the leisure centre for the first time.

Since then it has gone from strength to strength, the centre has had more than 450,000 visits in the first year and has more than 2500 members.
