Restoration Fortnight at the Empire

15th April 2016

Categories: Town Centre News

VOLUNTEERS at the Thwaites Empire Theatre are holding a ‘Restoration Fortnight’ with a host of acts performing to raise money for theatre repairs.

Irish comedian, Jimmy Cricket has been announced as the first act to perform on Monday 25th April at the two-week long fundraiser with a madcap comedy show and Q&A session.

More acts are soon to be announced for the Restoration Fortnight, which is to be held in the bar area at the theatre.

Chairman and Volunteer at the Thwaites Empire Theatre, Michael Berry, will be on hand to compere throughout the evening, he said: “Following the unfortunate collapse of a portion of plaster from the ceiling and because public safety is of the up-most important, we are having to finance the inspection and removal of every panel before shows can recommence.

“We have been overwhelmed by the support from the local community and we hope this continues into the Restoration Fortnight. We would also love to hear from anyone willing to help with fundraising activities outside of the theatre premises.”

A number of touring shows have been rescheduled due to the ongoing repairs which are expected to be completed this month.

Tickets for the Jimmy Cricket Show, which starts at 7.30pm, cost £6 and spaces are strictly limited with 65 places available. All the proceeds from ticket sales will be used to fund repairs.

The tickets will go on sale at 11am on Friday, 15th April and are available from www.thwaitesempiretheatre.co.uk or call the booking office on 01254 685500 Monday – Saturday 10am – 12.30pm.
