New University Centre at Blackburn College
Building work has begun on the new £13 million state of the art University Centre.
The landmark building, which is part of the town centre regeneration project and is the latest element of the college's multi million pound development, is being built on a one acre site just off Barbara Castle Way and will house a much expanded range of university level courses for over 3000 students.
The new eco-friendly building will have distinctive features including facilities for rainwater harvesting and solar heating and will include landscaped areas to promote the local ecology. It is expected to be completed by August 2009 to accomodate an anticipated 30% rise in the number of new students.
