Blackburn Market

Blackburn Market dates back to 567AD, when markets traditionally clustered around cathedrals and churches. Today’s Blackburn Market is a thriving shopping experience featuring more than 300 stalls. Food lovers can buy fresh, seasonal fish, meat and game or take home traditional Lancashire specialities such as black pudding and local cheeses. And no trip to the market is complete without trying a glass of old-fashioned sarsaparilla from Walsh’s Chemist Stall.

The market has its own food and drink scene with a wide choice of eateries to unwind in from sandwich shops and coffee bars to delis and licensed restaurants.

In 2011, Blackburn Market will relocate to a new home in The Mall where it will be linked by escalators to the shops above. It will retain many of the same stalls but will offer the market’s traditional values in a bright, modern atmosphere. The new market will continue to concentrate on providing fresh, locally sourced products and will be complemented by Christmas and seasonal markets.
