Birthday Celebrations for The Barlow Library & Cafe
28th January 2013
Birthday Celebration
Twelve months ago the library and cafe at The Barlow got off to a
flying start. Edgworth had lost its mobile library to Council cuts
but thanks to the tremendous efforts of a team of enthusiastic
volunteers a new library was opened which with the support of the
local community has continued to go from strength to strength.
Open every Saturday from 10.am – 1.00pm the café and library
have together become both well attended and important focal
points for the village and surrounding area.
Organiser Penny Clissold told us
‘The response during the past year has been fantastic and on Saturday 9th February we celebrate our first birthday. We are delighted that local MP Jake Berry will be joining us to mark the occasion along with many of our hard working volunteers. The Barlow offers a wide range of exciting activities for the local community and this initiative has proved to be both popular and successful. ‘
The library has a stock of over 500 books which with the help of Blackburn with
Darwen library service are changed on a regular basis. The café offers a range
of hot and cold drinks and snacks and local handmade crafts are also on sale.
