Blackburn and Darwen Christmas Light Switch On!

2nd November 2011

Categories: Town Centre News

Blackburn town centre will be ‘peppered’ with Xmas spirit at this year’s Christmas lights switch on. That’s because kids TV star Peppa Pig will be flicking on the switch in the town centre on Thursday November 24!

The event, taking place on King William Street from 5.30pm-7pm, will see a show packed full of performances as well as a fantastic fireworks display.

This year’s switch on – which will also launch the town’s late night shopping - will be delivered in partnership with Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, The Mall and The Bee Radio.

Prior to switching on the lights, Peppa will also be making a guest appearance in The Mall at around 4.30pm and will return there after the switch on for children to meet her in person between 7.30pm and 8pm.

This years Santa’s Grotto will be located next to Debenhams in The Mall and the nativity crib will be in Blackburn’s new £8m Market.

Councillor Dave Harling, Executive Member for Regeneration, said: "I am sure the exciting switch on events in both towns will make for an impressive start to the Christmas period in the borough.

There are plenty of events and activities planned over the Christmas period which will further enhance the image and appeal of Blackburn and Darwen as a destination of choice for shoppers, visitors and residents alike!"
