Adidas puts DARWEN on the global fashion map

Darwen born fashioner designer Gary Aspden has created a signature shoe for Japanese designer Kazuki Kuraishi as part of his collaborative line with Adidas Originals.

The Adidas DARWEN injects the popular hiking, outdoor-inspired footwear trend with a subtle and contemporary relevance to create the ultimate shoe for the minimalist urban hiker. The shoes features a mix of off-white suede with matching mesh panel and tongue. With its clean and trim look it is decidedly more ‘urban’ than the regular hiking shoes you are more likely to find on the feet of those exploring the Darwen countryside, but we love it all the same!

Gary, a former Holy Trinity and Blackburn Art College pupil, works as a freelance consultant for the sportswear giant and after producing the design asked if the shoe could be given the name of his home town.

“I’m very proud of my home town and it means that all my old friends can go and get a pair.”

The new DARWEN shoe costs £125 and will only be sold at a select number of independent retailers as part of the Adidas Originals retro collection, but already the shoes are proving popular with sneaker enthusiasts.

Gary’s style influence is already legendary with Madonna, Jamiroquai and Liam and Noel Gallagher being just some of the many names who seek his advice when it comes to being seen in the latest gear. So hopefully, as the trend for the new DARWEN shoe catches on our little town of Darwen will be firmly placed on the global fashion map.
