Blackburn’s Community Fire Station Open Day

The Official Opening of Blackburn’s New Community Fire Station will take place on Thursday 26th April and on Saturday 28th April, Blackburn’s firefighters are inviting the public to take a look around their brand-new fire station.

The last time Blackburn firefighters invited guests to celebrate the completion of their ‘new’ fire station was in May 1922, but 90 years on history repeats itself. It’s a theme that will be repeated during the day, with an old fire engine on site alongside contemporary machines, a display of photographs from the early days and comparisons to be drawn between uniforms and equipment from 90 years ago and their state-of-the-art equivalents on station today.

Also,  face painting, a ‘build a fire engine’ (out of recycled materials) session, games, quizzes and stalls selling cakes, toys and other goods to raise funds for the Firefighters’ Charity. Tea/coffee/soft drinks and biscuits will be free of charge!

Guided tours will start every 20 minutes.
