One of the most modern buildings opening for the Heritage Festival is Blackburn Spiritualist Centre which is the new home to one of the oldest surviving organisations in the town.  The Spiritualists in Blackburn began in the 1800s in the original Spiritualist Temple on St Peter’s Street.   The new purpose built building opened in November 2013 on Princes Street and includes healing rooms, the church, a mediums’ room and catering and conferencing facilities.

The public are invited to visit the building as part of Heritage Open Days and the Blackburn Heritage Festival on Saturday 13 September between 11am – 3pm when Helen Taylor (CSNU) of the Spiritualist National Union and local members who will be able to answer questions about Spiritualism and provide information.  There will also be an opportunity to receive spiritual healing, and for private readings with mediums.  The Crystal Cave gift shop will be selling dream catchers, jewellery, incense, crystals and crystal balls.

President, Elaine Goodman explained, ‘This will be an opportunity to discover the foundations of the movement in Blackburn in our fascinating History of Spiritualism’ archive room and hear our plans for how we hope to extend it in the future with a Heritage Lottery grant. Refreshments, including home-made cakes, hot buttered toast and teacakes will be served in the Lyceum Tea Room.
