International Women's Day Concert and other events at Blackburn Cathedral

This March Blackburn Cathedral will host its biggest ever celebration of International Women’s Day.

During the week of IWD, the Cathedral will be hosting four events celebrating female composers and performers:

Wednesday 6 March, 12.15pm - Vocal Recital given by Imogen Garner, with a programme of female composers. Accompanied by John Gough on piano. Free to attend with retiring collection, no booking required.

Friday 8 March, 7.30pm – International Women’s Day Concert featuring The Decibelles and Rossendale Ladies Choir. Free to attend but accepting donations in aid of Lancashire Women. Reserve your tickets here.

Sunday 10 March, 4pm – International Women’s Day Choral Evensong with all music by female composers, including works by Beach, Forbes, Weir and Burk. Free to attend, no booking required.

Sunday 10 March, straight after Evensong – Organ Meditation performed by Shanna Hart, Director of Music at St Botolph without Aldgate, London. Free to attend with retiring collection in aid of The Wish Centre, no booking required.

Road Directions

Blackburn Cathedral is located just off the A666, Darwen Street, opposite BBC Radio Lancashire.

BY CAR: The Cathedral is at the heart of Blackburn Town Centre and surrounded by convenient on-street car parks. Sat Nav users should use postcode BB1 5AA.

Blackburn town centre car parking at The Mall Blackburn.  Entrances on Exchange Street and Higher Church Street..  Sat-nav users use postcode: BB2 2DQ.  Height limit: 6 foot 2 inches. 

From M65 Junction 4 follow A666 towards Blackburn. After passing under the railway bridge the road forks to the left onto Mincing Lane. There are 3 car parks - Weir Steet, Mill Lane & Flemming Square (behind BCC Radio Lancashire). All are a short walk to the Cathedral. On street parking is free after 6pm.

Public Transport Directions

Blackburn Cathedral is only a short walk from the main rail & bus stations in Blackburn.

BUS: From Blackburn Bus Station walk along Ainsworth Street alongside The Market. Cross the road towards the train station onto Railway Road and the Cathedral is on the right.

TRAIN: From the main train station, walk towards the town centre and the Cathedral is just beyond Cathedral Quarter
