“It always is Christmas Eve, in a Ghost Story…”
The tradition of gathering together to tell ghost stories in the cold and dark of winter surely stretches back far further than Christmas? The Victorians however turn this parlour and party entertainment into an institution and expectation.
First published in 1891, Jerome K Jerome, famed author of Three Men in a Boat, perfectly parodies this spooky and popular amusement, with these comic horror stories. A portmanteau of ghostly tales, told by an unreliable narrator, tied together with nonsense, noise and whiskey-punch…
A Christmas Chiller or a Winter Warmer?
Either way you’ll be sure to be looking over your shoulder into the dark corners of the long nights. Storyteller Gav Cross brings this robust reading of a Victorian gem to life in his typically bombastic way.
This show will also have a ghost walk facilitated by re:fresh staff meeting at 6pm outside the Library. The walk around Darwen town centre is a FREE event and is not ticketed, but you'll need to purchase a ticket to watch the show.
Tickets for the ghost stories are £5 per head, available from the library or online from: https://spotonlancashire.co.uk/events/after-supper-ghost-stories/
